DISCOVER
DISCOVER (Digital, Autonomous, Intelligent and Synchronous system for Continuous identification, Optimization and Value Extraction of Resources from the end-of-use built environment) is a European research and innovation project that aims to transform the construction and demolition sector towards a more circular, data-driven, and sustainable future.
The project seeks to revolutionize current demolition and deconstruction practices by developing an advanced system for the autonomous, synchronous, and continuous identification and analysis of materials and components in end-of-life built environments. By combining robotics, digital technologies, and Building Information Modelling (BIM), DISCOVER enables accurate material recognition, traceability, and value extraction, thereby supporting higher levels of reuse and recycling in the construction industry.
Objectives
- To develop a set of autonomous and synchronous robotic systems capable of the precise analysis, identification, and digitization of materials and construction components in existing buildings
- To create an integrated digital framework that synchronously processes and visualizes data collected by the robotic systems, leveraging the rich information embedded in the BIM digital twin
- To enhance the circularity of construction materials and building elements through improved identification, documentation, and management of deconstruction strategies
- To develop a sustainability assessment framework that guides demolition and deconstruction methods, with a strong focus on reuse and high-quality recycling of recovered assets
- To foster the adoption of robotic technologies and collaborative BIM tools within construction and demolition workflows across Europe
Role of Tracimat
Within the DISCOVER project, Tracimat acts as a crucial link between research and real-world practice. Tracimat contributes its expertise in material traceability and circular construction, ensuring that the developed solutions are aligned with on-site realities and regulatory frameworks.
Tracimat will host and support a demonstration event in Belgium, where the robotic systems will be tested and validated in a practical demolition context. In addition, Tracimat will actively share its knowledge and experience on material tracing and certification with other European project partners, supporting the wider uptake of DISCOVER’s results across the construction value chain.
